WildSpiritz IMS MUSIC REVIEW - RIS CEOL - SA LEABA LE GROUCHO

When it comes to music Ris Ceol are a powerhouse of a band, all the while being regarded as a slight anomaly due to singing in Gaelic.

RIS CEOL

‘SA LEABA LE GROUCHO’

ROCK

INDEPENDENT

Ris Ceol are a very hard band to pigeon hole as they draw from a great many influences. Primarily rock there are many elements of country thrown in and a slight nod to punk on tracks like ‘Trump.’ They sing in their native Gaelic which is very refreshing and judging from their last release which we also reviewed this one shows a natural maturity in progression. The guys seem to have gone for a more acoustic feel to the songs, especially on ‘Nimh and Neamh’ and ‘An Fear Breige.’

The quality of the musicianship remains top drawer and the vocals are excellent once again. ‘No Pressure’ the opener is a funky little number and with its fabulous beat, ‘Damhsa Leis An Diabhal’ is the firm favourite. I’m glad that they have stayed true to themselves as translating any of these songs to an English version would lose their character. Once again Ris have taken their time and come up with something special. The only issue we have with this band is that they are not over here.
